Engineering complex systems, without the complexity.

Artemis Digital Solutions provides software engineering and technical consultancy across cloud infrastructure, backend systems, DevOps, security and product development.

From modernising delivery pipelines to designing production services and infrastructure, Artemis helps organisations solve difficult engineering problems and ship reliable software.

  • Senior software engineering
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • DevOps and CI/CD
  • Security and engineering quality
  • Observability and distributed systems

Complex software delivery

Architecture, backend services, APIs, integrations and internal platforms for production environments.

Cloud and infrastructure work

AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, networking, identity, delivery pipelines and operational tooling.

Real product ownership

MilSim.io is live and Cadia is in development, so the advice is grounded in systems Artemis builds and operates.

Engineering across the stack

Software is only part of the system. Artemis works across application engineering, infrastructure, delivery, security and observability, solving problems that rarely fit neatly inside one discipline.

Software Engineering

Designing and building production software with an emphasis on maintainable architecture, reliable backend systems and clean interfaces between services.

  • Java
  • C#
  • Go
  • Python
  • TypeScript
  • Backend services, APIs and integrations
  • Service and data architecture
  • Event-driven and asynchronous systems
  • Authentication, authorisation and identity
  • Modernisation of existing applications

From isolated services to larger distributed platforms, Artemis can work across design, implementation and production delivery.

Cloud & Infrastructure

Building secure, repeatable infrastructure for production systems across cloud-native and enterprise environments.

  • AWS
  • Azure
  • Kubernetes
  • Terraform
  • AWS and Azure architecture
  • Kubernetes and container platforms
  • Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
  • Networking, IAM and secrets management
  • Serverless and event-driven infrastructure

Infrastructure should be reproducible, reviewable and understandable, not a collection of manual steps accumulated over time.

DevOps & Delivery

Improving the path from commit to production by reducing manual work, standardising delivery and giving engineers faster feedback.

  • CI/CD architecture and consolidation
  • Reusable build and deployment workflows
  • Automated testing and validation
  • Environment promotion and release controls
  • Developer tooling and workflow automation

The aim isn't more pipeline YAML. It's a delivery process engineers can trust and rarely need to think about.

Security & Engineering Quality

Embedding security and quality controls directly into engineering workflows so issues are identified during development rather than after deployment.

  • SonarQube
  • Trivy
  • Checkov
  • Static analysis and code-quality controls
  • Dependency, container and IaC scanning
  • Secure cloud configuration
  • Secrets, encryption and identity controls
  • Auditability and engineering standards

Security works best when it becomes part of normal engineering practice rather than a separate gate at the end of delivery.

Observability & Distributed Systems

Designing systems that remain understandable when they're distributed across services, queues, infrastructure and large volumes of operational data.

  • Centralised logging and telemetry
  • Metrics and distributed tracing
  • Event ingestion and processing
  • Kafka and asynchronous architectures
  • ClickHouse and high-volume event storage

When production behaviour is visible, failures become engineering problems instead of mysteries.

Architecture & Technical Advisory

Senior engineering support for teams facing difficult architectural decisions, stalled projects or systems that have become harder to change than they should be.

  • Architecture and design reviews
  • Technical discovery
  • Modernisation planning
  • Security and infrastructure reviews
  • Unblocking complex engineering problems

Useful when you don't need another permanent team member, you need experienced engineering judgement applied to a specific problem.

We build our own products too.

Consultancy is only part of Artemis Digital Solutions. We also design, build and operate our own software products, which means technical decisions are informed by what happens after launch as well as what is needed to ship the first version.

Cadia

Observability infrastructure built for environments that need control of their data.

Cadia is being developed for organisations that require on-premise or privately hosted logging and telemetry infrastructure, making it a strong showcase for Artemis' distributed systems and observability experience.

  • Lightweight collection agents
  • Kafka-based ingestion and processing
  • ClickHouse analytics and telemetry search
  • Kubernetes deployment and identity integration

Practical engineering over unnecessary complexity

Good engineering is not about using the newest technology available. It is about designing systems that are understandable, secure, observable and maintainable while allowing teams to keep delivering software.

Automate repetitive engineering work.

Engineering time should go into delivery and architecture, not babysitting fragile process.

Make production systems observable.

Logs, metrics, traces and audit trails should exist before the incident review does.

Treat security as part of engineering.

Controls belong inside delivery workflows, infrastructure design and system architecture.

Prefer maintainable systems over clever ones.

Useful systems are understandable, operable and capable of surviving the team that launched them.

Experience across demanding technical environments

These environments often share the same engineering challenges: security, reliability, complex infrastructure, data processing and the need to deliver software without slowing development teams down.

Built by an engineer

Artemis Digital Solutions was founded by Ethan Mullan, a software engineer with experience across software development, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, security and product engineering.

His work spans enterprise engineering environments, startups, consultancy and independently developed software platforms. Alongside commercial engineering work, Ethan is undertaking doctoral research examining software engineering productivity and the impact of AI-assisted development on engineering quality, verification and accountability.
